Fintastics

2017

The Fox Point Fintastics is a competitive summer swim team that is part of the Rappahannock Swim League. Membership is open to all Fox Point residents and to swimmers outside of the neighborhood who qualify through an application process. We participate in six dual meets and one ‘Finals’ meet throughout the season which begins immediately after Memorial Day and concludes in early August. Parental involvement is crucial to the success of our swim meets and we appreciate the support from our wonderful group of parents.
Our goals are to instill in our members a love for the sport of swimming, a strong sense of pride in our community and our team, good sportsmanship, and to provide the opportunity for our swimmers to develop and improve their personal swim skills. Most of all, we want our swimmers to have fun!

Our Coaching Team

Maggie Hybl: I have been a member of the Fox Point Fintastics for 13 years and have been delighted to spend the last three summers as a part of the coaching staff in some capacity. Along with Fox Point, I spent 11 years swimming for the Rappahannock Area YMCA Stingrays and was a member of Courtland High School’s swim team for four years. Apart from swimming, I am currently a freshman at Virginia Tech studying Biochemistry and Psychology with hopes of someday going to medical school. I am a member of the Marching Virginians at Virginia Tech and really enjoyed cheering the Hokies on at every football game this season. At VT I am also a member of the campus band ensemble where I play the trombone. I am beyond excited to be Co-Head Coach with Coach Molly this summer and I hope to see all the Fintastics coming out and swimming fast this season!

Molly Mansfield: I have been a Fox Point coach for two years, and was a Fox Point swimmer for 13. Along with swimming for Fox Point, I also swam for eight years on the Rappahannock Area YMCA Stingrays and for four years with Courtland High School. Besides swimming, I enjoy lifeguarding, reading, playing cello, and traveling. I am currently a freshman at Duke University where I plan to major in Public Policy and Global Health. I am so excited to be Co-Head Coach with Coach Maggie this summer and I’m looking forward to a great season! I can’t wait to see you guys soon!

Jenny Leupold: I grew up in Bethesda, MD and competed in summer league swimming with Lakewood CC.  I enjoyed running Cross Country and Track for Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!).  I discovered a love for Triathlon and have enjoyed competing in the various distances for the last 10 years.  I teach swim lessons at the YMCA and have coached for the Rappahannock Area YMCA Stingrays swim team for two years.  I am looking forward to helping out the Fintastics again this year.  This will be our family’s 18th year participating with the Fintastics. All four of our children have been Fins and Ryland is currently in the 15-18 division. I am looking forward to a great season! Go Fins!

Mako Mendoza: I have enjoyed being a volunteer coach for the Fintastics for the last two summers and I’m happy and excited that I am officially on the coaching staff of the team this season! I’m eighteen, and I’ll be starting my freshman year of college at Brown University in the fall to study either International Relations or Anthropology. I’ve been swimming for about ten years on a few different teams, but this summer will be my fifth year with the Fins! I swam year round on the Rappahannock Area YMCA Stingrays for about five years, and for four years for Massaponax High School. Other than swimming, I love movies, making music, learning new things, going on adventures, and cheesy jokes. I am very excited for the opportunity to coach with some amazing people, and to get to spend time with all of you! I can’t wait to spend the summer with you all!
